The Opportunity

ProMedical is currently seeking an experienced Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist to join an NHS service in the East of England.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Gastroenterologist to support outpatient services, helping to reduce waiting times and improve patient access to specialist gastroenterology assessment and treatment. The role offers a consistent weekday working pattern with no on-call commitment.

The Role

The successful Consultant will deliver outpatient gastroenterology clinics, supporting the department in reducing waiting times and ensuring patients receive timely specialist assessment and management.

Key responsibilities may include:

• Conducting outpatient gastroenterology clinics for new and follow-up patients.
• Assessing, diagnosing and managing a broad range of gastrointestinal conditions.
• Reviewing investigation results and developing appropriate treatment plans.
• Providing specialist advice and guidance on ongoing patient management.
• Making appropriate referrals for further investigations or specialist treatment.
• Working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to support effective patient pathways.
• Maintaining accurate clinical records and high standards of clinical documentation.
• Contributing to clinical governance and maintaining patient safety standards.

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
• Specialist Register status in Gastroenterology, or relevant Consultant-level experience.
• Previous NHS Consultant-level experience in Gastroenterology.
• Experience conducting outpatient gastroenterology clinics.
• Broad knowledge of gastrointestinal conditions and their management.
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and patient management skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to clinical governance and high-quality patient care.

Desirable Requirements

• Experience supporting NHS waiting-list reduction initiatives.
• Experience managing high-volume outpatient clinics.
• Experience developing efficient patient pathways.
• Previous involvement in clinical audit, quality improvement or service development.
