About the role
This is a senior role inside the in-house studio of a British, design-led stationery brand. The work is typographically sharp and taste-led, but it has to sell at mass-premium scale – a diary sells roughly every 25 seconds at peak. That tension is the job.
This is a place that asks you to build the product itself – from a typographic idea, through supplier negotiation, to a physical object people choose to keep.
The Role
You’ll be the senior creative voice behind the physical products – notebooks, list pads, charms, chess sets and beyond – taking ideas from concept through to production. That means exceptional typography and graphic design first, then the hands-on craft of print, paper stocks, finishes and binding, and the supplier conversations where creative ambition meets cost.
You’ll drive seasonal direction, bring emerging references into a studio that wants to be pushed, and find the commercial middle ground that lands with their audience. You’ll report to the Stationery Design Manager and manage at least one Designer, mentoring as the range grows. The expectation is real breadth across simultaneous projects, at genuine pace.
The Package
£50,000 – £55,000
Hybrid working: three days a week in the studio
25 days’ leave, with the option to buy five more
20 days a year to work from anywhere
Private medical cover and a rewards scheme, including discounted gym membership
Enhanced parental leave
Monthly cultural allowance; stationery allowance; 40% staff discount
Two paid volunteer days, weekly team lunches, dog-friendly office
The Person
You’re a mid-to-senior Designer, typographically strong, with the ambition to also create physical products. You may come from a design-led consumer, lifestyle or stationery brand or another transferable experience like in-house at a hospitality brand creating their collateral. You have experience taking physical products through to production and dealt directly with suppliers – samples, comments, cost against ambition.
Your portfolio leads with type and graphic craft; you think in trends, but translate them commercially, and you’re open to building up one or two junior designers.
