Overhaul Production Manager
Location: Manchester Salary: £60,000 – £70,000 per annum Working Hours: Monday to Friday, days Weekends: No weekend working
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Overhaul Production Manager to join a growing engineering operation in Manchester and play a key role in the development and successful delivery of a brand-new overhaul facility.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Production Manager with a background in heavy engineering, rail, manufacturing or workshop environments to take ownership of production operations and help shape a facility from the ground up.
You will be responsible for leading production activities across a range of complex component overhaul operations, whilst driving high standards of safety, quality, efficiency, delivery and continuous improvement.
This is a hands-on leadership position offering genuine autonomy, significant responsibility and the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the development of the operation.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of UK Overhaul, you will lead the day-to-day production operation and be responsible for the performance, organisation and development of the facility.
You will oversee component overhaul activities including:
• Bogies
• Wheelsets
• Traction motors
• Gearboxes
• Couplers
• PWPs
• HVAC systems
Key responsibilities will include:
• Leading and managing the production team to achieve safety, quality, cost and delivery targets.
• Planning and managing day-to-day production activities and resources.
• Driving a strong culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
• Ensuring the highest standards of housekeeping, organisation and 5S across the facility.
• Managing production performance and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and productivity.
• Working closely with Engineering, Materials and other key stakeholders to ensure production requirements are met.
• Supporting the setup and mobilisation of the new overhaul facility.
• Supporting the design and optimisation of the facility layout.
• Assisting with the specification and implementation of equipment, tooling and production systems.
• Ensuring production teams receive robust training across processes, procedures and work instructions.
• Ensuring teams understand applicable Bills of Materials and production requirements.
• Developing and maintaining a highly engaged, accountable and safety-focused production team.
• Identifying and resolving employee, equipment, process and operational issues.
• Promoting Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles throughout the operation.
About You
We are looking for a confident and experienced Production Manager who can take ownership of a busy engineering environment and lead from the front.
You will ideally have:
• Significant experience in production and people management within a heavy engineering, manufacturing, rail or similar environment.
• A proven track record of planning, leading and delivering high-quality production output on time.
• Experience within component overhaul, workshop operations, depot environments or similar engineering facilities.
• Experience of setting up, developing or scaling a production operation would be highly advantageous.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
• Experience with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Autonomous Maintenance would be beneficial.
• A Level 4/5 engineering qualification or equivalent engineering experience. Strong Level 3 engineering candidates with significant relevant experience will also be considered.
