About the role
They are seeking to recruit a highly skilled Quality Engineer to oversee and improve product quality across our high-precision machining, CNC, and heavy fabrication operations.
The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between technical engineering drawings and strict quality assurance, spending time both on the workshop floor and managing robust quality documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacturing Quality Assurance: Oversee quality compliance for in-house precision CNC machining (milling/turning) and multi-process welding and fabrication assemblies.
- Inspection & Metrology: Define and implement inspection plans using a variety of precision measuring instruments, including Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), verniers, micrometers, and shadowgraphs.
- Root Cause & Corrective Action: Lead investigations into internal non-conformance's and customer complaints using structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5 Why)
- Documentation & Compliance: Author and compile comprehensive Quality Control Plans (QCPs), Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and Final Quality Dossiers for major power sector clients.
- NPI & Process Optimization: Support New Product Introduction (NPI) by participating in FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) sessions and developing robust control plans to minimise process variation.
- Supplier Quality Management: Conduct technical audits of sub-contractors providing raw materials, specialised machining, non-destructive testing (NDT), or surface treatments.
- Industry Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years as a Quality Engineer within power generation, aerospace, oil & gas, or a similarly regulated safety-critical environment.
- Machining & CNC Literacy: Strong practical understanding of precision machining processes, CNC programming limits, and how machining tolerances impact final assembly.
- Fabrication & Welding Knowledge: Familiarity with welding quality standards (e.g., ISO 3834, ASME IX, BS EN ISO 15614) and the ability to interpret welding procedures (WPS) and qualification records (PQR).
- Engineering Drawings: Exceptional ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, with a deep understanding of Geometric Dimension and Tolerance (GD&T).
- Auditing: Proven experience conducting internal or supplier audits. A formal internal auditor qualification (ISO 9001) is highly desirable.
Preferred Skills & Personal Attributes
- NDT Awareness: Knowledge of non-destructive testing methods such as Dye Penetrant (DP), Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI), and Visual Testing (VT).
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to confidently challenge manufacturing processes on the workshop floor and present data to high-profile clients.
- Systems Familiarity: Experience using digital Quality Management Systems (QMS) and ERP software.
