About the role
We are looking for an experienced teaching assistant with special educational experience to join our specialist school in Wallington, near Croydon, on a supply (ad hoc) basis.
Salary: £88-£93 per day // Working Hours: 8:30-4:30 Any day during the working week.
Collaborate with teaching staff and provide 1:1 and small group support to help students overcome emotional challenges, engage with learning, and build positive relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide targeted academic and behavioural support to individual pupils or small groups.
- Assist class teachers with classroom management, lesson preparation, and learning activities.
- Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
- Support pupils with emotional self-control and conflict resolution using positive behaviour strategies.
- Monitor student progress and report achievements or challenges to teaching staff.
- Escort and support pupils during lunch breaks, physical activities, and school trips where required.
Qualifications & Essential Criteria
- GCSEs in English and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or higher (or equivalent standard). Holding a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is preferred by not essential.
- Proven background working alongside children or young people with SEND.
- Excellent communication skills, patience, emotional resilience, and a proactive work ethic.
- A high degree of empathy, strong professionalism, and the capability to establish trust with vulnerable or challenging pupils.
