Max INC Rate: $103.11

Overview

This role will support the BC Hydro Non-Integrated Areas Planning group in managing an increasing mechanical workload across capital projects, OMA work programs, and Owner’s Engineer review activities. The successful candidate will provide preliminary design, costing, inspection, and troubleshooting expertise for diesel generating station mechanical systems in an electric utility environment. Responsibilities include supporting diesel gensets (50 kW–2.8 MW), engine auxiliary systems, diesel fuel storage and transfer systems, HVAC and fire protection systems, and cranes, hoists, and other lifting devices, while working closely with operations staff, suppliers, contractors, and consultants.

Must Have

  • Experience with preliminary design, costing, inspection, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems for diesel generating stations in an electric utility environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with operations staff, suppliers, contractors, and consultants.
  • Experience supporting diesel generation mechanical systems, including diesel gensets, engine auxiliary systems, diesel fuel storage and transfer systems, HVAC and fire protection systems, and lifting equipment.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, identify priorities, and perform effectively with minimal direction.
  • Demonstrated initiative with the ability to proactively identify issues, opportunities, and required actions.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities, particularly when evaluating mechanical systems and technical issues.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments and apply sound judgment to advance work activities.
  • P.Eng and Permit to Practice (can be set up upon offer)

Nice to Have

  • Experience with diesel generation systems and related infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with costing, inspection, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities associated with power generation assets.
  • Experience using Microsoft Copilot or other AI-enabled productivity tools in a professional environment.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD for conceptual design layouts and preliminary drafting activities.
