About the role

Learning Support Assistant / Support Worker – Mainstream & Medical Support

  • 16–19-year-olds
  • Mainstream College Department
  • Kings Cross
  • FULL-TIME
  • £14.61 – £22.32 per hour
  • Long-term contract

A well-established further education college in London is looking for an experienced Learning Support Assistant (LSA) or Support Worker to join their mainstream department, supporting students aged 16–19 across their education and vocational programmes.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide academic and classroom support across the mainstream college, helping students access lessons, complete coursework, engage with learning and develop their independence.

Importantly, the college is specifically looking for a candidate who has experience supporting individuals with epilepsy and is trained to administer Buccolam. This is a very important requirement of the role. Candidates must have both Epilepsy and Buccolam training to be considered.

The Role

The majority of the role will involve supporting students within the mainstream college environment. You will work alongside teaching staff to provide learning support across a range of subjects and vocational programmes.

The role will involve:

  • Providing classroom and academic support to mainstream students
  • Helping students access lessons and learning materials
  • Supporting students with coursework and classroom activities
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and participation
  • Working alongside teaching staff and the wider college support team
  • Supporting students across a range of mainstream and vocational subjects
  • Providing specific support to a student with epilepsy
  • Responding appropriately to the student’s medical needs
  • Administering Buccolam when required and in accordance with the student’s agreed medical support plan

Essential Requirements

The college is specifically looking for candidates who have:

  • Experience working with young people and/or vulnerable children
  • Experience working as an LSA, Teaching Assistant, Support Worker or similar
  • Experience supporting students within an educational environment
  • Confidence providing academic and classroom support
  • Current Epilepsy training
  • Current Buccolam training and experience administering Buccolam
  • The confidence and ability to respond appropriately to a student’s medical needs
  • A patient, caring and reliable approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to build positive relationships with young people
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider college team

Experience supporting students with SEND, disabilities or additional needs would be advantageous.

Important Requirement

Epilepsy and Buccolam training is a key requirement for this position.

The successful candidate must be trained in epilepsy management and administering Buccolam. This is essential due to the specific support needs of a student within the college.

While the role includes this specialist responsibility, the candidate will be based within the mainstream department and will be expected to support a wider range of students academically throughout the college.

Therefore, the ideal candidate will be someone who is both academically confident and experienced in providing medical support, with the ability to balance mainstream learning support alongside the specific needs of the student with epilepsy.

If you have the relevant mainstream education experience, Epilepsy and Buccolam training, and are confident supporting young people academically, please apply with an up-to-date CV.

A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Health & Social Care or a related discipline would also be desirable, although relevant practical experience will be considered.

The Centre

The college is one of the largest post-16 college groups in London, with a dedicated and experienced management and support team. The organisation provides excellent training and development opportunities and supports young people across a range of vocational and foundation programmes.

Who We Are Looking For

This role would suit an experienced LSA, SEN Teaching Assistant, Support Worker, Youth Support Worker, Care Worker or similar professional who is confident working with vulnerable young people and can provide consistent, safe and compassionate support.

Due to the nature of the role, candidates must hold valid Epilepsy and Buccolam training. Applications without both will not be considered.

If you have the relevant experience and training, please apply with an up-to-date CV.
