The City of Doncaster Council is a confident, ambitious organisation which puts improving the life of its residents at the centre of everything we do. You have an opportunity to be part of this in the role of Education Welfare Officer.

Do you have a positive approach to work and enjoy the challenge of a busy role?

We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join our dedicated Attendance & Pupil Welfare Service. We are currently recruiting for three Education Welfare Officer posts.

We are looking for highly self-motivated individuals with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, who have experience in an Education Welfare Officer role or a related education, attendance, safeguarding or family support position.

These roles involve fulfilling the statutory responsibilities and duties of the Local Authority as outlined in relevant legislation, Department for Education guidance and local policies.

The successful candidates will predominantly support the Local Authority's Elective Home Education (EHE) responsibilities, including undertaking visits and assessments, providing advice and guidance to families, and assessing the suitability of education provision. Postholders will also contribute to Children Missing Education (CME) and attendance-related duties where required.

Working closely with families, schools and partner agencies, the successful candidates will help ensure every child and young person has access to suitable full-time education, whether through regular school attendance, Elective Home Education or other appropriate educational provision.

These posts will play a key role in supporting the increasing demand within EHE services and ensuring the Local Authority continues to meet its statutory duties and deliver positive outcomes for children and young people.

If you are passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people and have the skills to make a difference, we would love to hear from you.

We value a range of experiences and skills. If you have transferable skills from other roles or voluntary work, we encourage you to apply.

Please state clearly on your application form which post(s) you wish to apply for.

In return for your contribution, we offer:

  • Competitive leave entitlement
  • Generous local government pension scheme
  • Wellbeing support and staff networks
  • Development and training opportunities
  • Staff discounts and benefits schemes
  • More information on benefits can be found in the attached benefits booklet.

Please review the job summary and profile and demonstrate in your application how you meet the required criteria.

Shortlisting will take place week commencing 12th October 2026 and interviews are anticipated on week commencing 19th October 2026.
