About the role

Veterinary Surgeon | Bedfordshire

Up to £60,000 DOE

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an RCVS Registered Veterinary Surgeon to join an established, Partner-led small animal practice in Bedfordshire from December 2026.

This position would suit a good all-round GP Vet who enjoys a varied first-opinion caseload and wants to work within an experienced and supportive clinical team. The role offers a 4-day working week with every Friday off, alongside strong clinical support and access to a nearby 24-hour hospital.

Key Highlights

  • Salary up to £60,000 DOE

  • Full-time, permanent position

  • Starting December 2026

  • 40 hours across 4 days

  • Every Friday off

  • Partner-led practice

  • Experienced multi-vet clinical team

  • Varied first-opinion medical and surgical caseload

  • 1 in 3 Saturdays across local branches OR 1 in 6 full weekends at the 24-hour hospital

  • Shared Bank Holiday and on-call commitments may be required

  • £1,500 CPD allowance plus 3 days' paid CPD leave

  • Funded certificates

  • Visa sponsorship and relocation support available

The Role

You'll work as a general small animal Veterinary Surgeon, managing a broad mix of first-opinion medical and surgical cases.

The practice is looking for a confident all-rounder who enjoys being part of a collaborative team and wants to contribute to the continued development of an established local practice.

Typical responsibilities will include:

  • First-opinion consultations

  • Routine surgical procedures

  • Medical and surgical case management

  • Developing individual treatment and care plans

  • Providing clear communication and continuity of care to clients

  • Working closely with the nursing and support teams

  • Maintaining high clinical, regulatory and operational standards

  • Sharing knowledge and contributing to the wider clinical team

Rota

The position offers a particularly attractive working week:

  • 40 hours per week

  • 4-day working week

  • Fridays off

  • Either 1 in 3 Saturdays across the local branches or 1 in 6 full weekends at a nearby 24-hour hospital

  • Fair share of Bank Holiday shifts

  • Participation in an on-call rota supporting the 24-hour hospital may also be required

Facilities & Team

You'll be joining an established Partner-led practice with an experienced veterinary and nursing team.

The Partner has extensive experience in Emergency & Critical Care and also holds a postgraduate certificate in Small Animal Medicine, providing an excellent source of clinical support for more challenging medical cases.

The wider veterinary team also includes experience in clinical leadership and a Vet with a particular interest in surgery.

Clinical facilities and services include:

  • Ultrasound

  • Digital X-ray

  • ECG

  • Dentistry

  • In-house laboratory

  • Nurse-led clinics

  • Separate patient care facilities

  • Access to nearby 24-hour hospital support

This provides a strong environment for a Vet who wants to continue developing across both medicine and surgery.

About You

You'll need to be an RCVS Registered Veterinary Surgeon and a capable first-opinion all-rounder.

You'll ideally be comfortable with:

  • Routine consultations

  • General medical cases

  • Routine surgery

  • Developing treatment plans

  • Client communication

  • Working collaboratively within an experienced clinical team

The practice is looking for someone who enjoys clinical variety and wants to become an active member of the team rather than simply working through their own caseload.

Salary & Benefits

  • Up to £60,000 per annum DOE

  • 5 weeks' annual leave plus Bank Holidays, increasing with length of service

  • Additional paid 'Day for You'

  • £1,500 CPD allowance

  • 3 days' paid CPD leave

  • Funded certificate opportunities

  • Internal CPD and Clinical Communities

  • Private Medical Insurance from day one

  • Health Cash Plan from day one

  • 24/7 counselling and wellbeing support

  • Life Assurance at 3x salary

  • RCVS, VDS and BVA fees paid

  • Visa sponsorship available

  • Relocation support available

  • Sabbatical options based on length of service

  • Cycle to Work scheme

  • Season Ticket Loan

  • Employee discounts

This is a strong opportunity for a Vet looking for a 4-day week, fixed Friday off, experienced clinical support and a varied first-opinion caseload within a well-established Bedfordshire practice.
