About the role

Job summary

This position is an integral part of the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade's Planning and Performance team within the Exports Directorate, working in close partnership with the SEO (Senior Executive Officer) Corporate Performance lead. The postholder will play a pivotal part in supporting robust corporate performance reporting across the Directorate.

Job description

This role will

  • Assist and support the Corporate Performance lead in developing efficient and effective reporting tools for the Exports Directorate.
  • Lead on corporate issues and projects, as needed, and support the SEO and EO in the team.
  • Monitor and analyse corporate performance information, providing actionable insights to improve the Directorate.
  • If required, support the Export Delivery Board at times of peak work.
  • Provide expert advice and support to senior leaders in the Exports Directorate and DIME.

Key accountabilities

  • Coordinate corporate activities including areas of finance, risk, assurance, workforce, ensuring recommendations are implemented and lessons learned are embedded.
  • Support the Directorate’s work for corporate reporting and performance, working closely with Exports Private Office, DIME, DBT, and HMG stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners, including finance, risk, and assurance leads across government.
  • Provide clear, concise, and insightful reporting to senior boards and stakeholders, supporting evidence-based decision-making.
  • Support the development and delivery of Directorate-wide business plans, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. This may include supporting the Export Delivery Board.

Essential criteria

The below criteria are essential and will be assessed at application stage.

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leaders and external partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple performance workstreams.
  • Experience working in a corporate function such as risk, finance or HR or/and be able to demonstrate delivery experience within these areas.
  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel to be able to present information clearly and in multiple formats

Desirable criteria

  • Project management and delivery experience.
  • Understanding of how digital tools and technology can enhance financial and risk management.
  • Understanding of resource accounting principles/financial literacy.
