About the role

Secondary Maths Teacher - Haverhill & Surrounding Areas

Are you an enthusiastic, dynamic Secondary Maths Teacher passionate about making numbers engaging and accessible to young learners? Whether you are seeking the total freedom and work-life balance of day-to-day cover, or looking for the stability and connection of a long-term department placement, we have fantastic opportunities tailored to your schedule.

We are currently partnering with a welcoming network of secondary schools, high schools, and academies in Haverhill and across the surrounding West Suffolk and Cambridgeshire borders. We are experiencing high demand for dedicated Mathematics specialists to deliver inspiring lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (with Key Stage 5 / A-Level opportunities also available).

Whether you are an experienced Maths Teacher, a subject specialist looking to step back from full-time responsibilities, or an Early Career Teacher (ECT) eager to build confidence and network across local departments, we can help you find your ideal setup.

Choose Your Ideal Way of Working:
  • Day-to-Day Cover: Enjoy complete control over your working week with total flexibility. Choose the exact days you want to work to perfectly balance your personal commitments, family life, or hobbies while exploring different secondary maths departments.

  • Long-Term Opportunities: If you prefer building ongoing relationships with departments and students, we offer fixed-term subject placements spanning a term or a full academic year. These roles allow you to teach your core subject, track progress, and embed yourself fully within a school community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver engaging, well-structured Mathematics lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, fostering problem-solving skills, numerical confidence, and exam readiness.

  • Create a positive, safe, and productive classroom environment using effective behaviour management strategies in line with school policies.

  • Differentiate learning resources and delivery to support students with diverse learning abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) or high prior attainment.

  • Leave clear, professional handover notes for regular class teachers when fulfilling day-to-day cover assignments.

  • For long-term roles: take full responsibility for planning, preparing, marking, assessing student progress against GCSE specifications, attending department meetings, and participating in parents' evenings as required.

What We Look For:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS (or recognised UK teaching qualification).

  • Specialist subject knowledge in Mathematics across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (KS5 is a bonus).

  • Strong classroom management skills and the confidence to step into dynamic secondary environments.

  • An adaptable, punctual, and professional approach with excellent communication skills.

  • A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete one).

Benefits of Working With Us:
  • Competitive daily rates of pay, processed weekly and reflective of your experience level and subject specialism.

  • A dedicated local consultant with deep knowledge of the secondary education sector in Haverhill and the surrounding areas.

  • Complete flexibility to set and update your availability on your own terms.

  • Direct exposure to top local secondary schools and academies, frequently leading to direct permanent contract offers.
