Junior Buyer

A well-established and highly respected manufacturing business based in Wareham is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Buyer to join their growing team.

This role would suit someone who is early in their purchasing career or looking to take their first step into procurement and supply chain, you’ll need to be commercially minded, organised and confident communicating with suppliers and internal teams. Most importantly, you’ll have a genuine desire to learn, take ownership of your work and develop your career within purchasing.

This is a newly created position offering the opportunity to gain valuable experience across purchasing, supplier management, procurement, negotiation and ERP systems. The working hours are Monday to Friday paying £21-£31,000 DOE.

Duties for the successful Junior Buyer: 

• Raise and process purchase orders using the company’s MRP system
• Place orders and ensure materials and components are delivered on time
• Source products and identify potential new suppliers
• Obtain and compare supplier quotations
• Monitor supplier order confirmations and delivery schedules
• Track inventory levels and maintain accurate procurement records
• Expedite orders where necessary to support production requirements
• Assist with resolving shortages, late deliveries and quality issues
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with existing and potential suppliers
• Support negotiations with suppliers to achieve competitive pricing and favourable terms
• Work closely with production, logistics and other internal departments
• Manage the purchase order cycle and support an efficient goods-in process
• Assist with production planning activities
• Maintain accurate information within the ERP system
• Provide support to the Production/Procurement Manager and wider team as required

The Requirements for the Junior Buyer role: 

• Strong organisational and administrative skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Commercial awareness and a willingness to develop purchasing knowledge
• Able to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities
• Good problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic and keen to develop
• Able to build positive working relationships with colleagues and suppliers
• Confident making decisions while knowing when to seek advice
• Ability to remain organised and effective when working under pressure

Desirable Experience

• Knowledge of SAP 
• Previous experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment
• Experience dealing with suppliers and obtaining quotations
