Commercial Accountant

W&A is partnering with an established organisation to recruit a Commercial Accountant on a 9-month fixed-term contract. This is a broad commercial finance role offering close exposure to senior management and operational leaders, with scope to contribute to planning, investment decisions and business improvement activity.

The Opportunity 

Working closely with teams across the business, the Commercial Accountant will act as a key link between senior management, finance and operational leaders. Reporting to the Finance Director, the role will provide financial and commercial insight to support decision-making, budget management and a range of wider business activities. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Drive financial planning and analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, KPIs and financial modelling. 

• Work with operational and development managers to control and manage budgets. 

• Provide commercial input into new business activity and support informed decision-making. 

• Build effective relationships with budget holders and business leaders, translating financial information into clear commercial insight. 

• Support financial modelling for new projects, acquisitions and existing operations. 

• Assist with corporate activity, including acquisitions, restructuring and the establishment of new legal entities. 

• Contribute to vendor contract management, tendering exercises and due diligence activity. 

• Identify and support process improvements across finance and the wider business. 

What You’ll Bring 

• ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent accounting qualification. 

• Strong financial planning and analysis experience, including budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis. 

• Commercial accounting experience working closely with non-finance stakeholders, budget holders and business leaders. 

• Financial modelling experience, including scenario analysis and stress testing. 

• Strong understanding of financial statements, cash flow analysis and KPIs. 

• Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with large datasets and complex financial models. 

• Clear communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to make financial information accessible to non-finance colleagues. 

• Experience in a project environment, the energy or construction sectors, financial management software such as Sage Intacct, or tendering activity would be advantageous rather than essential.
