Welder - Backshift

Location: Brompton-on-Swale, North Yorkshire
Basic Pay: £16.85 per hour
Shift Allowance: +20%
Backshift Rate: £20.22 per hour
Contract: Temp to Perm, transferring to permanent employment in the 13th week

Shift Pattern

• Monday to Thursday: 2:30pm - 11:00pm
• Friday: 2:30pm - 8:30pm
• 40-hour standard working week 
• Monday to Friday overtime: x1.5 + 20% shift allowance
• Saturday overtime: 7:30am - 12:30pm, paid at basic rate x1.5

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Welder to join a structural steel fabrication environment on a backshift pattern.

You will be responsible for MAG 135 welding of structural steel plates and sections up to 100mm thick, producing single and multi-run fillet and butt welds within a busy production setting. 

Previous structural steel welding experience is essential for this position. 

Key Responsibilities

• Welding structural steel plates and sections up to 100mm thick
• Using MAG 135 welding equipment
• Producing single and multi-run fillet and butt welds in the down-hand position
• Visually inspecting completed welds against required specifications
• Using grinders and associated consumables safely
• Using overhead cranes and appropriate slinging techniques
• Working accurately to production targets and deadlines
• Maintaining high standards of quality and workmanship
• Following HSEQ requirements and safe operating procedures
• Supporting and engaging with ongoing training 

What We're Looking For

• Time-served Welder or equivalent qualification
• Previous MAG 135 manual welding experience
• Structural steel experience is essential
• Excellent understanding of welding codes and standards
• Experience with overhead cranes and slinging techniques
• Ability to work to a high standard within time constraints
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and within a team
• Good initiative and a positive approach to work
• Strong understanding of health and safety requirements
• City & Guilds / NVQ in structural steel welding would be advantageous
• Visual weld inspection certification would be advantageous
• Candidates will be required to complete a welding skill test
