Estimating Manager

Cogent Staffing are seeking a skilled Estimating Manager to join our client’s team in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and play a pivotal role in pricing bespoke joinery, display, and multi-material manufacturing projects for the retail sector. This position is essential for delivering accurate, commercial estimates and assisting the commercial team in achieving the company’s strategic growth objectives. The ideal candidate must have a solid background in cost estimation across joinery, print, plastics, and retail display materials, with candidates possessing extensive senior industry experience commanding the higher salary range.

Shifts & Salary

• Salary: £30,000 – £40,000 per annum DOE (must have strong industry experience for the higher range)
• Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
• Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm
• Location: Halifax, West Yorkshire

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the end-to-end estimating process from initial client enquiry and technical drawings through to final quote delivery.
• Produce precise cost breakdowns for bespoke retail display and joinery projects, factoring in timber, plastics, print, metalwork, and assembly labor.
• Source material prices and negotiate terms with suppliers and sub-contractors to maximize project profitability.
• Collaborate closely with production, design, and CAD teams to evaluate manufacturing methods, material choices, and potential value-engineering solutions.
• Maintain up-to-date costing databases, material rate sheets, and margin tracking reports.
• Travel to clients as required for estimation and new projects.
• Review project specifications and offer technical advice to clients and external sales personnel to ensure realistic project delivery.

Key Requirements

• Proven experience in an estimating or cost-planning role within joinery, retail display, point-of-sale (POS), or multi-material manufacturing.
• Strong technical understanding of joinery fabrication, plastics, print techniques, and general display construction methods.
• Ability to read and accurately interpret technical drawings, CAD files, and client design specifications.
• Excellent numerical, analytical, and commercial negotiation skills, with high proficiency in MS Excel and estimating software.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple pricing requests to strict deadlines.
• Able to commute to Halifax, and visit customers as required.
