Shift Manager - London

My client is seeking a hands-on Shift Manager to lead and supervise the shift engineering team, ensuring seamless 24/7 building operations in the London Area.

This role is Monday - Friday.

The Shift Manager will maintain operational continuity, manage immediate system availability during out-of-hours periods, and act as the primary escalation point for engineering emergencies.

Responsibilities include leading shift briefings, managing team attendance and performance, monitoring Building Management Systems (BMS) and critical system dashboards, coordinating emergency responses, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.

The role demands strong decision-making skills under pressure, effective communication during shift handovers, and the ability to manage multiple incidents simultaneously.

The successful candidate will foster team cohesion, deliver quality control on maintenance works, and maintain accurate technical documentation and shift logs.

Key Responsibilities
Lead and supervise shift engineers, providing technical guidance and prioritising tasks.
Conduct daily shift briefings and handovers to ensure operational continuity.
Monitor live BMS, fire alarms, and critical systems, coordinating rapid responses to faults and emergencies.
Manage reactive maintenance and planned preventive maintenance (PPM) delivery during shifts.
Serve as the primary escalation point for out-of-hours engineering emergencies, liaising with emergency services and clients.
Enforce health and safety compliance, conduct safety inspections, and manage Permit to Work systems.
Maintain comprehensive shift logs, documentation, and update work management systems in real-time.
Optimise system performance and manage shift resources efficiently, including tools, equipment, and fleet.

Skills
Proven shift leadership and team management experience in 24/7 operational environments.
Strong situational leadership and autonomous decision-making skills during unsociable hours.
Hands-on technical competence in electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
Practical troubleshooting and fault diagnosis under time pressure.
Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and critical building systems.
Emergency response coordination and risk assessment capabilities.
Proficient in using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (e.g., Corrigo, Maximo).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for shift logs and incident reporting.
Valid IOSH Managing Safely certification and thorough health & safety knowledge.
Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, public holidays, and on-call duties.

This is a temp to perm role paying £31.25 per hour PAYE + holiday pay or £41.25 per hour Umbrella.
