Location: Rugby Borough Council
Pay: £16.60 per hour PAYE
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm
Contract: Temporary

On-Call: Optional – £200 standby payment per week

The Role

Rugby Borough Council is seeking an experienced Multi Trader with strong plumbing skills as their primary trade and carpentry skills as a secondary trade.

You will be responsible for carrying out responsive repairs and maintenance within domestic properties, working independently in occupied homes and completing as many repairs as possible on the first visit.

This is a hands-on role requiring someone who is practical, reliable and confident undertaking a range of maintenance tasks without needing to rely on additional trades for straightforward associated repairs.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out domestic plumbing repairs and maintenance.

• Repairing bathroom and kitchen plumbing.

• Identifying and repairing leaks.

• Replacing and repairing taps, toilets, basins and other sanitary ware.

• Repairing waste pipes and carrying out general drainage-related plumbing works.

• Undertaking plumbing fault finding and remedial works.

• Carrying out associated carpentry repairs where required.

• Completing responsive repairs efficiently and to a good standard.

• Working safely and professionally within occupied properties.

• Diagnosing faults and completing repairs on the first visit wherever reasonably possible.

• Maintaining accurate records of completed work using basic IT systems.

Person Specification

Essential

The successful candidate will have:

• Strong practical experience in domestic plumbing, which must be their primary trade.

• Good experience carrying out responsive repairs in domestic properties.

• Practical carpentry skills as a secondary trade.

• Experience repairing bathrooms and kitchens.

• Experience repairing leaks, taps, toilets, basins, sanitary ware and waste pipes.

• Good general fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.

• The ability to work independently and manage a varied workload.

• Confidence working in occupied residential properties.

• A practical, customer-focused approach.

• The ability to complete a good proportion of repairs during the first visit.

• Basic IT skills. Training will be provided on the Council’s systems.

• A full, valid UK driving licence.

Desirable

• Previous experience working for a local authority, housing association or social housing provider.

• Experience carrying out responsive repairs within occupied properties.

• Experience working as a multi-skilled maintenance operative.

• Additional trade or maintenance skills beyond plumbing and carpentry.

Additional Information

The successful candidate will be provided with a company van for work purposes only. Candidates are expected to provide their own basic hand tools, while power tools will be supplied.

There is also an opportunity to participate in an on-call rota, for which an additional £200 standby payment per week is available.
