SEN Teacher

Leigh Academy Rainham are recruiting for a brand new SEN Teacher starting January 2027 or earlier. In 2025, we proudly launched the Meegan Centre - our brand-new Specialist Resourced Provision designed specifically for children with moderate learning difficulties and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) working up to three years below age-related expectations.

As the provision expands year on year, we are seeking an experienced, primary-trained specialist to lead the design and delivery of a targeted English and Maths curriculum. This role focuses on embedding the core foundational skills Key Stage 3 students need to succeed in their future GCSEs.

This is an exciting opportunity to combine small-group SEND teaching in a state-of-the-art facility with a broader, whole-school impact on foundational core skills across mainstream classes. As the provision expands, the role will naturally evolve in collaboration with the inclusion and foundational skills leadership teams.

SEN Teacher/Foundational Skills Priorities:

• Curriculum Development: Review and enhance the current Year 7 and 8 English and Maths curricula within the Meegan Centre to address and bridge primary-level skill gaps. Curriculum development to manage the rapid pacing of mainstream lessons by breaking concepts down into highly repetitive, small, manageable steps.
• Life Skills Development: Where appropriate deliver interventions or life skills programmes for individuals of groups of students to Integrate functional independence targets into academic work, teaching money handling, time-telling etc
• Instruction & Delivery: Plan and teach high-quality, engaging English and Maths lessons to KS3 students in the Meegan Centre.
• Targeted Interventions: Design and execute effective intervention programs for both Meegan Centre and mainstream SEND students working below age-related expectations.
• Mainstream Collaboration: Partner with mainstream subject teachers in lessons to support individual students and small groups, accelerating progress in fundamental skills. Support the phased mainstream integration, transition of students into mainstream classes, scaffolding their environments so they can access subjects without feeling overwhelmed.
• Staff Training & Capacity Building: Deliver targeted professional development to Teaching Assistants and teaching staff to maximise their impact on SEND student progress and foundational skills across all learning environments.
• Collaboration: Working with the inclusion team, SENDCo and Foundational skills leads to support our students and provide feedback on individuals students and impact of curriculum and interventions.
