Cheddar, UK TeacherActive TeacherActive is proud to be working with a welcoming middle school in Cheddar that is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and practical School Caretaker. The school is seeking a reliable and motivated individual who will take pride in maintaining its buildings and grounds. The successful candidate will help provide a safe, secure and well-maintained environment for pupils, staff and visitors. This is a permanent, all-year position offering 35 hours per week. The precise working pattern will be agreed with the successful applicant. The successful School Caretaker will be responsible for: • Completing general repairs and routine maintenance • Undertaking basic carpentry, plumbing and decorating tasks • Helping to maintain the school’s buildings, grounds and facilities • Supporting site security and health and safety procedures • Monitoring the condition of the premises and reporting concerns • Working effectively with school staff, external contractors and visitors • Following relevant compliance procedures and school policies • Contributing to the continued improvement of the school environment The ideal School Caretaker will have: • Practical maintenance and general DIY skills • Experience of basic repairs, carpentry, plumbing or decorating • A proactive, organised and dependable approach • The ability to work independently and use their initiative • Strong communication and teamwork skills • A willingness to learn about school compliance systems and procedures • A commitment to safeguarding and maintaining a safe environment for children • Previous experience in a school or similar setting, although this is not essential The successful applicant can expect: • A permanent position within a supportive school team • A salary of £25,989–£28,142, dependent upon experience • 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing with service • Access to professional development opportunities • Local Government Pension Scheme membership, subject to eligibility • Staff wellbeing support and additional employee benefits All applicants will be contacted by a dedicated consultant to discuss their suitability for the role.
