Billing Brook School is a large, successful special school in Northampton, serving children and young people aged between 4 and 18. All pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan. The school caters for a range of complex needs in particular:

• Significant to severe cognition and learning difficulties
• Speech, Language and Communication difficulties

Typically, pupils have a combination of special educational needs, the majority are autistic. Whilst we recognise that our children and young people have special educational needs, we also work hard to recognise, celebrate and build upon their strengths.

This position is specifically within our secondary provision and will involve teaching pupils with complex and high levels of need who are working within Pathway 1. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a highly personalised curriculum that is centred on each pupil's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes, ensuring that learning, communication, independence and wellbeing objectives are embedded throughout daily practice. A significant aspect of the role will be preparing pupils for adulthood through our Preparation for Life curriculum, supporting the development of essential life skills, independence, community engagement and readiness for their future beyond school. Experience of working with pupils with complex SEND and a commitment to a holistic, person-centred approach is essential.

• Has a positive attitude, is resilient and able to keep calm

We do not expect teachers to come to school knowing “everything there is to know” about SEND, however previous experience would be an advantage. We recognise the importance of work-life balance and welcome part-time applications from teachers look to work a reduced working week (three or four full days).
