Desian Education are proud to be working in partnership with a supportive mainstream primary school in Widnes who are looking to appoint an experienced and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated SEND provision on a full-time basis.
Your New Role:
You will be working within a designated SEND provision supporting a small class of 10 pupils from EYFS to KS1. The provision caters for children with a range of complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), cognitive delays and communication needs, with some pupils being non-verbal.
Due to the individual needs of the pupils, the role will involve a combination of educational, personal care and behavioural support, making this a rewarding opportunity for a Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
· Providing high-quality 1:1 and small-group SEND support
· Supporting pupils with ASD, cognitive delays and communication needs
· Working with non-verbal pupils using appropriate communication strategies
· Supporting pupils with personal care where required
· Implementing positive and consistent behaviour management strategies
· Supporting pupils to regulate their emotions and behaviour
· Assisting with learning, play and developmental activities across EYFS and KS1
· Promoting independence, confidence and social development
· Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team
· Creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment
What you need to succeed:
The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience working with children with SEND, ASD or complex learning needs and be comfortable supporting pupils who may present with challenging behaviour or require personal care.
You will:
· Be patient, nurturing and compassionate
· Confident supporting children with ASD and communication difficulties
· Comfortable providing personal care when required
· Consistent and confident when managing challenging behaviour
· Able to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
· Have an Enhanced Children’s DBS certificate or willing to obtain
· A strong team player who works effectively alongside teachers and other professionals.
