Physician: General Medicine (Consultant)

We are currently seeking a Consultant in General Internal Medicine to support services in the South West within the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) and General Medicine Department.

This is a 3-month locum opportunity for an experienced Consultant with GMC Specialist Register status. The position offers the chance to work within a well-established acute medical team, providing consultant-led care for patients presenting with a broad range of acute and complex medical conditions.

You will play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care, clinical leadership, and multidisciplinary working within a busy hospital environment.

• Provide consultant-level care for patients admitted via acute and emergency medical pathways
• Support the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) and General Medicine services
• Lead consultant ward rounds and make timely clinical decisions to optimise patient outcomes
• Work collaboratively with nurses, allied health professionals, junior doctors, and the wider multidisciplinary team
• Supervise, mentor, and support junior medical staff
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with NHS standards
• Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives
• Ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred care

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
• Must be on the GMC Specialist Register in the relevant specialty
• Previous Consultant-level experience in General Internal Medicine
• Recent NHS experience within an acute hospital setting
• Excellent clinical judgement, leadership, and communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of an established multidisciplinary team
• Valid Right to Work in the UK (please note we do not offer visa sponsorship)
