About the role

Zest Education is currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient SEND Teaching Assistant to join a large and inclusive primary school in Tamworth from October 2026.

The school is well-regarded within the local community for its nurturing approach, strong pastoral support, and commitment to providing every child with the opportunity to succeed. This role will be based within the school’s specialist SEND provision, supporting children with a range of additional needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a positive difference to the lives of children who require additional support to access education.

About the Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to engage with learning, develop positive relationships, and navigate challenges throughout the school day.

You will primarily be supporting two children who can display challenging behaviour and heightened levels of emotional dysregulation. The successful candidate will be able to remain calm, patient, and consistent, building strong relationships and implementing strategies that help pupils feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.

This role requires an individual who is resilient, compassionate, and highly committed to supporting children with complex needs within a mainstream primary school setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs within the school’s SEND provision.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with children who require additional emotional and behavioural support.
  • Help pupils access learning activities and engage with the curriculum.
  • Support children during periods of heightened dysregulation using agreed strategies and interventions.
  • Encourage emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behaviour choices.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, SEND professionals, and school leaders.
  • Maintain a safe, nurturing, and structured environment for pupils.
  • Promote pupils’ social, emotional, and academic development.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful applicant will:

  • Have experience working with children with SEND, SEMH, or behavioural needs.
  • Be calm, patient, and able to remain professional in challenging situations.
  • Understand the importance of consistency, routine, and relationship building.
  • Be confident supporting children who may struggle to regulate their emotions.
  • Possess strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Be passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning.
  • Have experience in education, youth work, support work, care, or a similar setting.
  • Hold a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
