Woodcot Primary School is seeking a Lead Assistant Teacher who is passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Our new Resource Provision - The Beacon - will open to pupils in January 2027, so this is an exciting time to join the school and help shape the provision on offer to pupils at Woodcot. The SENCo will retain overall responsibility for curriculum design, and you will work closely with them to plan the structure of the day. During the day, you will work with pupils individually and in small groups, supporting them to access the curriculum either within the Beacon or alongside their peers in the classroom.

About the role

  • Work closely with the SENCo to help design the structure of the day and the curriculum offer within the Beacon.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and coordination of Beacon staff, ensuring a consistent, calm and structured approach.
  • Take a lead role in monitoring pupil progress and outcomes, and in reviewing individual pupil plans.
  • Liaise with class teachers, parents/carers and external agencies as required.
  • Support the SENCo in embedding and continually improving practice within the provision as it becomes established.

The ideal candidate will possess

  • A positive, approachable and caring attitude towards all children.
  • A reflective and adaptable teaching style to meet the diverse needs of each individual child.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to contributing to our school’s values, ethos and development.
  • Experience of, or a genuine interest in, supporting children with social, emotional and mental health needs.
  • A calm, consistent and resilient approach when working with pupils who may present with behaviour that challenges.
  • An understanding of the impact of trauma and attachment on children’s behaviour and learning (desirable).
  • Experience of leading, coordinating or mentoring the work of other adults (desirable).
  • Confidence in liaising with the SENCo, class teachers and external professionals and agencies.

At Woodcot Primary School you will find

  • Happy, motivated children eager to learn in a one-form entry primary setting.
  • A dedicated, supportive and welcoming staff team.
  • A strong focus on continuing professional development (CPD) and a commitment to your future.
  • An ethos that embraces new ideas and innovation.
  • A well-resourced environment with extensive grounds.
  • Opportunities for strong professional development, including high-quality mentoring and coaching.

In return, you will get:

  • A competitive salary
  • Entry into our LGPS pension scheme
  • Free Enhanced DBS
  • Onsite parking
  • Be part of Gateway Central Services in The Gateway Trust, an organisation dedicated to supporting the local community
