SENIOR DESIGN ENGINEER – Glossop

One of our expanding Glossop clients are looking to recruit an experienced and talented Senior Design Engineer, you will report directly to the Engineering Manager, work on  your own and as part of an established team.

This is not a desk-only CAD role, the post holder is expected to spend a significant proportion of time in the prototype area and test facility, personally assembling, instrumenting, testing, measuring and fault-finding development hardware.

Qualifications Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent demonstrable competence in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or a closely related discipline. Chartered status or progress toward professional registration.

Experience Strong experience developing mechanical products, high pressure fluid systems from concept to manufacture, including prototype build, testing and design iteration. Pressure regulators, valves, fluid control, high-pressure gas, hydrogen, aerospace, oil & gas or hazardous-area products.

Practical ability Confident use of hand tools, measuring equipment, test instrumentation and workshop equipment within competence; able to assemble and diagnose precision mechanical hardware. Machining, fabrication, rig construction, data acquisition, electronics integration or automated test systems.

Design capability 3D CAD, engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, material selection, sealing principles, design calculations and DFM/DFA. Finite element analysis, flow analysis, fatigue/life assessment or pressure equipment design methods.

Engineering method Can plan controlled experiments, interpret data, distinguish evidence from assumption, conduct root-cause analysis and make sound risk-based decisions. Formal DVP&R, FMEA, 8D, DOE or reliability-growth experience.

Communication Able to explain technical issues clearly to production personnel, managers, customers and suppliers; writes concise, traceable technical documentation. Experience presenting at design reviews, audits or customer technical meetings.
