# Senior or Principal Mechanical Building Services Engineer
**Salary:** £55,000-£71,000

We are recruiting a Senior or Principal Mechanical Building Services Engineer for a leading UK infrastructure consultancy.
You will take a leading role in the design and delivery of mechanical building-services solutions across infrastructure and Ministry of Justice projects,including prisons and other secure operational facilities.
Depending on your experience,you will either lead mechanical delivery on individual projects or provide wider technical leadership across a portfolio of complex,multidisciplinary schemes.
## Key responsibilities
* Lead the design of heating,ventilation,cooling,domestic water,drainage and associated mechanical building-services systems.
* Prepare and check calculations,specifications,drawings,schedules and technical reports.
* Lead projects from survey and concept design through detailed design,construction support,commissioning and handover.
* Act as mechanical technical lead or multidisciplinary Design Team Lead where required.
* Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical,structural and architectural disciplines.
* Undertake technical reviews and provide design assurance.
* Develop practical solutions for new-build,refurbishment and upgrade projects.
* Ensure compliance with Building Regulations,British Standards,CDM requirements and relevant engineering guidance.
* Manage project quality,risks,budgets and programme commitments.
* Liaise with clients,contractors,suppliers and operational stakeholders.
* Present technical proposals and engineering recommendations.
* Mentor and professionally develop engineers and technicians.
* Contribute to bids,framework submissions and work-winning activity.
* At Principal level,support resource planning,workload allocation and people management.
## About you
You will have:
* A degree in Mechanical Engineering,Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
* Extensive mechanical building-services design experience.
* Strong knowledge of HVAC,mechanical plant,water services,controls and energy-efficient design.
* Experience leading technical delivery within multidisciplinary project environments.
* Detailed knowledge of Building Regulations,British Standards and CDM requirements.
* Experience undertaking design reviews,technical assurance and quality-management activities.
* Strong commercial,client and stakeholder-management skills.
* Working knowledge of AutoCAD,Revit,BIM platforms and mechanical calculation software.
* Incorporated or Chartered status with CIBSE or another relevant professional institution.
Principal candidates should normally possess Chartered Engineer status or equivalent experience and demonstrate team leadership,commercial responsibility and work-winning capability.
Experience within prisons,courts,government buildings or other secure and operationally sensitive estates would be advantageous. Candidates must be able to obtain the necessary Ministry of Justice security clearance.
