About the role
Jackson Hogg is delighted to be partnering with a well-established organisation in Gateshead on the appointment of a Payroll Specialist.
This is a standalone role offering full ownership of the monthly payroll process for approximately 450 employees. Working closely with HR, Finance and external payroll providers, you'll be responsible for ensuring payroll is delivered accurately and on time, while maintaining compliance and supporting continuous improvement across payroll processes.
This opportunity would suit an experienced payroll professional who enjoys taking ownership, driving improvements and acting as the key point of contact for all payroll-related matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end monthly payroll process
- Liaise with payroll providers to ensure accurate and timely payroll delivery
- Review payroll outputs and resolve discrepancies before sign-off
- Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements and payroll legislation
- Administer statutory payments and payroll year-end activities
- Manage P11Ds, PAYE Settlement Agreements and payroll compliance processes
- Administer pension schemes, auto-enrolment and employee benefits
- Coordinate company car administration and related reporting
- Produce payroll reports and analysis for Finance, HR and senior management
- Support budgeting and forecasting through payroll data provision
- Act as a key user for payroll systems and support process improvements
- Contribute to payroll-related projects and future operating model development
About You
- Significant experience in a payroll position with responsibility for payroll processing and compliance
- Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements
- Experience managing payroll providers and resolving payroll queries
- Knowledge of pensions administration and auto-enrolment
- Strong Excel and reporting skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
Desirable
- Experience using iTrent HR & Payroll
- Experience with P11Ds, PSA and IR35 processes
- Benefits administration experience
- CIPP qualification or equivalent
- Experience within a manufacturing or operational environment
