Are you looking for a rewarding learning support assistant job in Weston-super-Mare? Do you have experience supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)?

Hours: 32 hours and 30 minutes a week, term time only

Contract: fixed-term until 31 August 2027, contract extension potential subject to funding

Interview: 14 October 2026

Locking Primary School is seeking a caring, motivated, and dedicated learning support assistant to join our inclusive and supportive team. As a SEND learning support assistant, you will:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support for pupils with additional needs.
  • Work with small intervention groups to enhance learning and development.
  • Support children with autism, social communication difficulties, and SEND requirements.
  • Implement and deliver the TEACCH approach and other personalised learning strategies.
  • Help pupils develop confidence, independence, emotional wellbeing, and engagement in learning.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, families, and external professionals to ensure positive outcomes for children.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children in a school, nursery, early years, or educational setting.
  • Has experience supporting children with SEND.
  • Is patient, compassionate, and committed to inclusive education.
  • Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Holds a Level 3 Early Years qualification or equivalent (desirable but not essential).
