About the role

Location: Digbeth

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a supportive Teaching Assistant to start immediately. This Teaching Assistant position will involve working with children and young people aged 2 to 19 who have a wide range of complex special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), sensory processing needs, physical disabilities, medical needs, and significant speech, language, and communication difficulties. The successful Teaching Assistant will help create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment where every pupil is supported to achieve their individual goals.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils with autism, complex learning difficulties, and communication needs.
  • Help implement individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and personalised learning programmes.
  • Adapt learning resources and activities to meet a wide range of abilities and needs.
  • Support pupils with sensory regulation, physical needs, and medical requirements where appropriate.
  • Use a variety of communication methods, including visual supports, symbols, signing, and communication aids.
  • Encourage independence, confidence, social interaction, and life skills development.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals, and families to provide consistent support and achieve positive outcomes.

This Teaching Assistant role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people with complex needs to develop their communication, independence, and confidence while reaching their full potential.

What You’ll Need

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, autism, SLD, PMLD, communication difficulties, or complex needs.
  • A patient, caring, and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A team-focused attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Confidence supporting pupils with personal care, physical needs, or medical needs where required.
