About the role

  • Experience of teaching or working within the Early Years Foundation Stage

  • Experience of planning and delivering high-quality learning experiences for young children

  • Experience of supporting children with a range of needs, including SEND

  • Experience of working effectively with parents and carers

  • Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework

  • Good understanding of child development and how young children learn through play, exploration and adult interaction

  • Knowledge of effective approaches to teaching early reading, phonics, writing and mathematics in Reception

  • Understanding of how to develop children's communication, language and vocabulary

  • Understanding of effective assessment, recording and reporting arrangements in the Early Years

  • Up-to-date understanding of safeguarding measures and the particular safeguarding needs of young children

  • Understanding of how to create an effective balance between adult-led teaching, guided learning and child-initiated learning

  • Outstanding classroom practitioner who can create a warm, nurturing and purposeful learning environment

  • Strong understanding of how to develop early literacy, phonics and mathematical understanding

  • High expectations of children's learning, independence, behaviour and personal development

  • Ability to identify and respond effectively to individual children's needs, including SEND

  • Ability to use observation and assessment effectively to adapt teaching and provision

  • Good organisational and time-management skills

  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to use a range of teaching approaches and strategies that enthuse, motivate and actively engage young children

  • Ability to provide a stimulating and challenging learning environment both indoors and outdoors

  • Ability to work effectively with other adults to ensure consistent, high-quality provision
