About the role

Keeping homes safe, warm and maintained to the highest standard.

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Gas Engineer to join our Housing Maintenance team. In this hands-on role, you will help deliver high-quality maintenance and repair services across the Council's housing stock and corporate properties, ensuring residents receive safe, reliable and efficient services. Working under the direction of a Repairs Officer, you will undertake a variety of gas works, contributing to the ongoing improvement and upkeep of homes and buildings across North Northamptonshire.

What will you be doing?

As a Gas Engineer, you will play a vital role in maintaining and improving the Council's housing stock and corporate properties. Working both independently and as part of a team, you will deliver high-quality gas repairs, maintenance and installation services, helping to keep homes safe, warm and compliant for our residents.


  • Carrying out gas maintenance, servicing, repairs and installation work in accordance with work orders and industry standards.
  • Responding to emergency repairs, routine maintenance, planned works and void property projects.
  • Completing gas safety inspections, testing and certification to ensure compliance with current legislation.
  • Using mobile technology to record work completed, order materials and request follow-on works.
  • Ensuring all work is carried out in line with Gas Safety Regulations, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Managing and maintaining vehicle stock, tools and materials to support efficient service delivery.
  • Working safely and effectively, always adhering to health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Identifying and following appropriate procedures when encountering asbestos-containing materials and other hazards.
  • Maintaining relevant gas qualifications, training and professional registrations.
  • Delivering a reliable, customer-focused service that supports the upkeep and improvement of Council homes and buildings.

About you

  • CCN 1 Core gas safety element
  • Hold current gas registration.
  • CPA1, CKR1, CENWAT 1, MET 1, HTR 1, Range Cooker, Unvented hot water.
  • Willing to undertake training as and when required to cover changes in regulation and legislation.
  • Practical experience of Gas installations and Repairs
  • Literate and Numerate Health and safety aware Customer care skills Ability to use electronic devices Must be motivated and a team player
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Aware of equal opportunities relevant to the role.
  • Hold a valid driving licence
  • Willing to undertake CAT B asbestos training
