Young People Legal Team – Warwickshire County Council

Location: Hybrid – Warwick (Shire Hall)
Pay: £13.69 per hour
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week
Contract: 6-month temporary assignment
Start date: 5 October 2026

Warwickshire County Council is seeking an organised and motivated Legal Support Assistant / Paralegal to join its Young People Legal Team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in child protection and family law while supporting solicitors and legal assistants in a busy local-authority legal environment.

About the RoleYou will provide administrative, secretarial and paralegal support across child protection matters. Duties include:

  • Preparing, updating and managing court bundles.

    • Redacting confidential documents and preparing court papers.

    • Filing and serving legal documents.

    • Obtaining evidence and actioning court orders.

    • Drafting routine correspondence and legal documents.

    • Opening and maintaining case files and case management records.

    • Supporting the preparation of witness statements and legal papers.

    • Attending court hearings, meetings and conferences when required and taking notes.

    • Providing high-quality administrative support to Children and Families legal teams.

The role also provides opportunities to undertake supervised fee-earning work and develop legal knowledge through training, mentoring and practical experience.

Essential RequirementsApplicants should have:

  • 5 GCSEs or equivalent, including Maths and English.

    • At least 6 months' relevant experience.

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    • Good analytical, organisational and problem-solving abilities.

    • Accurate IT, document production and information-handling skills.

    • The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

    • Strong attention to confidentiality, professionalism and integrity.

    • Confidence handling sensitive information concerning children and families.

    • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.

    • Resilience when dealing with the emotional aspects of child protection work.

Desirable
  • Audio typing experience.

    • Experience with case management systems, particularly Visualfiles.

    • Knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules.

    • Previous legal administration or paralegal experience.

    • Willingness to learn and adapt to changing service needs.
