Are you an experienced HLTA, Teaching Assistant or education professional who is confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and passionate about making a genuine difference?
Pink Tile Education is working with a specialist SEMH school seeking a confident and nurturing HLTA to join their team, supporting pupils across upper primary and secondary age groups.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who understands that building positive relationships is at the heart of successful behaviour management. You will work closely with pupils to understand their interests, strengths and individual needs, using these relationships to encourage engagement and help pupils make positive choices.
The Role
As an HLTA, you will have a varied and rewarding role, including:

Supporting pupils across upper primary and secondary age groups with a range of SEMH needs.

Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils and taking the time to understand their individual interests and personalities.

Supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour, including verbally challenging or confrontational behaviour.

Using positive behaviour strategies to redirect pupils when situations begin to escalate.

Helping pupils understand how to manage tension, conflict and difficult emotions in a safe and appropriate way.

Remaining calm, consistent and confident when managing challenging situations.

Leading lessons and classes when required, ensuring pupils remain engaged and that behaviour is managed effectively within the classroom.

Supporting teachers with classroom management and learning activities.

Adapting your approach to meet the needs of individual pupils.

Encouraging pupils to develop confidence, independence and positive attitudes towards education.

Working as part of a wider staff team to provide consistency and stability for pupils.

Taking on a range of additional HLTA responsibilities and duties to support the smooth running of the school.

What We’re Looking For
The successful candidate will ideally have:

Previous experience working within an SEMH, SEND, alternative provision or challenging educational environment.

Experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour.

Confidence leading classes and managing behaviour independently.

A calm, patient and resilient approach.

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

The ability to remain professional and composed during difficult or confrontational situations.

A genuine interest in getting to know pupils and understanding what motivates them.

The ability to use creativity and positive reinforcement to redirect negative behaviour.

Confidence setting boundaries while maintaining positive relationships.

A flexible and adaptable approach to working across different ages and situations.

A passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.

Most importantly, you will need to be someone who can see beyond the behaviour. The pupils you will be supporting may have experienced significant challenges, and the ability to build trust, understand what is driving their behaviour and provide a consistent, positive influence is essential.
