The Role & About the Client

ITS Building People are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Design Manager on behalf of a large and well-established main contractor. This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful business delivering a diverse portfolio of major construction projects across the region. The successful candidate will take a senior role within the design team, overseeing the design process from pre-construction through to project delivery and ensuring designs are coordinated, compliant and delivered in line with programme, budget and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

• Leading and managing the design process from pre-construction through to completion.
• Managing and coordinating design teams, consultants, subcontractors and specialist designers.
• Reviewing design information, drawings and specifications to ensure they meet project requirements.
• Coordinating design development and ensuring all design information is issued in line with programme requirements.
• Identifying and resolving design issues and technical queries throughout the project.
• Working closely with the Project Manager, Commercial Team and site teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Managing design risk and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and project requirements.
• Reviewing technical submissions and ensuring designs are suitable for construction.
• Managing the production and approval of design information and technical documentation.
• Liaising with clients, consultants and project stakeholders throughout the design and construction process.
• Monitoring design progress against the overall project programme.
• Attending design meetings, progress meetings and project reviews.
• Supporting the procurement process by ensuring design information is available and coordinated.
• Managing design changes and ensuring their impact on programme, cost and construction is understood.
• Providing technical and design leadership to project teams.
• Supporting the successful delivery of projects from pre-construction through to completion and handover.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

• Previous experience working as a Design Manager or Senior Design Manager within a main contracting environment.
• Strong experience managing the design process on large-scale construction projects.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and external consultants.
• Strong technical understanding of construction and design processes.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and technical information.
• Experience managing design programmes and coordinating design deliverables.
• Strong knowledge of current building regulations, legislation and construction standards.
• Experience working closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal project teams.
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of the impact of design decisions on cost and programme.
• Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively to tight deadlines.
• Relevant construction or design-related qualification would be advantageous.
• Experience working for a large main contractor would be highly advantageous.
