1:1 Support Assistant

As a 1:1 Support Assistant, you will provide tailored support throughout the school day, helping the pupil access learning, build confidence and develop independence. You’ll work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider staff to ensure consistent, high‑quality support.

Key Responsibilities

• Individual pupil support — adapting activities and instructions to meet the child’s needs
• Behaviour support — promoting positive routines and emotional regulation
• Small‑group or 1:1 interventions — delivering targeted learning activities
• Supporting communication, social skills and confidence
• Helping the pupil engage with classroom tasks and stay focused
• Working with the class teacher and SENCO to follow support plans
• Monitoring progress and sharing observations
• Encouraging independence while providing reassurance and structure
• Supporting during transitions, breaktimes and other daily routines

About You

• Experience supporting children in a school or childcare setting
• A calm, patient and nurturing approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to adapt quickly and follow guidance from teaching staff
• Passionate about helping children overcome barriers and succeed
• Understanding of SEND is beneficial but not essential
