Location: Handsworth, Birmingham
Hours: Monday to Friday, 2:30pm to 6:30pm (20 hours per week)
Start Date: Immediate Start Available – Long Term position
Salary: £13.50ph
 
About the Role
We are currently seeking a reliable and proactive Cleaner / Deputy Caretaker to join a friendly school in the Handsworth area. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong cleaning and maintenance skills who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for staff, pupils, and visitors.
Working alongside the Site Manager/Caretaker, you will support the day-to-day upkeep of the school premises and grounds and will be responsible for locking up each day.  This role will initially start as a temporary position with the opportunity of a permanent position for the right candidate
Key Responsibilities

• Cleaning of all school areas & dealing with accidents during shift
• Carrying out general maintenance tasks around the school
• Ensuring school buildings and grounds are safe, secure, and well-maintained
• Assisting with health and safety checks
• Supporting with setting up rooms and equipment for school events and activities
• Opening, locking, and securing areas of the school as required
• Reporting maintenance issues and assisting with routine inspections

Requirements

• Previous cleaning &  caretaking, or facilities experience
• Good practical skills, eye for detail and the ability to carry out minor repairs
• Reliable, trustworthy, and able to work independently
• Strong awareness of health and safety procedures
• Good communication skills
• Ability to work in a school environment and support a positive atmosphere

Safeguarding
As this role is based within a school, the successful candidate will be required to undergo enhanced safeguarding and vetting checks, including an Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references, in line with safer recruitment practices.
