What you’ll do…

As the GIS Technician, you will help Forestry England achieve its objectives by providing an accurate inventory of the districts assets, from which to base future operational planning, and provide technical support on GIS and data matters to the wider forest district to enable them to fulfil their roles within the Forest District.

The GIS Technician works closely with Forestry England colleagues across the Forest District to ensure data is collected and recorded correctly and integrity in datasets is maintained.

Where you’ll work…

The postholder will be part of Forestry England North District based out of our Grizedale (LA22 0QJ) or Bellingham (NE48 2HP) offices.

You will be asked to write a 200 word statement on your relevant experience and career history, along with a personal statement of no more than 500 words. You will be assessed on both during sifting. More details about how to apply are listed on the application form.

You will also be assessed on technical skill. This will involve a short practical exercise loading and interrogating data, using both the in-house Forestry England GIS and ArcGIS Pro - help will be provided from our current GIS technician. Candidates will not need to prepare anything specific in advance for this exercise.

Successful candidates will undergo a criminal record check and the government baseline personnel security standard check.
