Job summary

The SIA is an executive non-departmental public body sponsored by the Home Office, set up in 2004 to regulate certain activities in the private security industry. Currently, we employ nearly 400 members of staff. We are operationally independent of government.

We are now preparing to take on new responsibilities as the regulator of Martyn’s Law - named after Martyn Hett, one of the 22 people who tragically died on 22 May 2017 in the terrorist attack on Manchester Arena. Martyn’s Law, introduced by the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, is intended to improve protective security and preparedness at premises and events across the UK.

The new Act will require premises in scope to be prepared to keep people safe in the event of an attack. Certain larger premises and events will also need to take steps to reduce their vulnerability to acts of terrorism.

Martyn’s Law is primarily a civil, regulatory regime. We will regulate supportively and proportionately but robustly. The SIA will have new guidance, investigatory and inspection functions and a range of new powers and sanctions. Our new Martyn’s Law functions will sit alongside and complement our existing responsibility for regulating the private security industry.

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is looking for a Notifications Technical Specialist to join our Notifications function and play a key role in supporting the delivery of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, also known as Martyn’s Law.

This is an exciting opportunity to become a subject matter expert for the Martyn’s Law notifications portal and associated processes. You’ll be at the heart of a new and evolving regulatory function, helping members of the public and the regulated community navigate notification requirements, while providing specialist technical and operational support to colleagues.

As the expert point of escalation, you’ll investigate and resolve complex enquiries and technical issues that cannot be addressed at first contact. You’ll use your judgement and problem-solving skills to identify solutions, manage competing priorities and ensure customers receive accurate, timely and high-quality support.

Your role will extend well beyond day-to-day support. You’ll support the testing, implementation and continuous improvement of systems and processes, helping the Notifications function develop and succeed as Martyn’s Law is implemented. You’ll also play a leading role in notifications reporting and data quality, providing senior stakeholders with meaningful insights into compliance volumes, emerging trends and data integrity. Your analysis will help inform regulatory activity and evidence-based decision making.

You’ll build strong relationships across the SIA and with external stakeholders, contribute to guidance and knowledge resources, and help ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery. You’ll also provide coaching and technical leadership to junior colleagues, helping develop capability and confidence across the team.

We’re looking for someone with experience of working with operationally critical systems, portals or platforms, alongside strong analytical, information management and customer support skills. You’ll be confident handling complex issues, communicating technical information clearly and working collaboratively in a changing environment.

Experience in a regulatory, compliance or public sector setting would be advantageous, as would experience with Power BI, case management systems, service transition, training or knowledge management.

• Technical expertise: experience working with operationally critical systems, portals, or platforms, with the ability to develop expert knowledge and support system improvements, testing and implementation activities.

• Data analysis: experience analysing and interpreting data to identify trends, generate actionable insights, and support evidence-based decision making.

• Information management: experience maintaining accurate records, assuring data quality, and managing information in accordance with relevant policies or standards.

• Customer and operational support: experience providing specialist support to service users, handling complex enquiries and managing issues through to resolution.

• Communication skills: excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly to a range of audiences.

• Stakeholder engagement: ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively with service users, colleagues, and external stakeholders.

• Leadership and people management: experience managing, coaching, or supervising staff and supporting team development.

• Complex case management and problem solving: ability to analyse complex issues, identify solutions, and make informed decisions with sound judgement, while managing competing priorities.

• Working environment: able to work effectively in an evolving environment, managing competing priorities and supporting the implementation of new systems, processes, and ways of working.

Desirable

• Experience working within a regulatory, compliance, or public sector environment.

• Experience using Power BI to develop reports, dashboards, and data visualisations that support performance monitoring and business decision-making.

• Knowledge of case management systems or customer portals.
