Job summary
The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is a part of the Ministry of Defence responsible for the procurement, in-service support, and disposal of the UK’s nuclear submarines. Our work is of unparalleled strategic importance nationally and internationally, ensuring the security of the UK’s continuous at-sea nuclear deterrent (CASD), and delivering some of the most technically complex programmes in defence. At least one of four nuclear-armed submarines, supported by smaller attack submarines, is on patrol at all times: 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Job description
The Submarine Production Alliance has been established to deliver future Submarines to the Royal Navy in collaboration between the MOD and key industry partners. Within the SPA, there is a single Stealth team, with responsibility across all Submarine production projects to ensure future nuclear and conventionally armed Royal Navy submarines can remain undetected across their full range of mission sets.
This role represents a rare opportunity to join the Submarine Production Alliance as Engineering System Owner - Stealth. A key decision maker with responsiblity across stealth elements of future submarine designs alongside development of operational requirements and doctrine.
Leading a team of experienced scientists and engineers, you will have responsibilities for the provision of technical direction, professional development and mentoring.
Primarily based at MOD Abbey Wood, you will provide strategic direction to teams across the UK both within the MOD and key industry partners, including regular travel to a number of UK sites.

Person specification
We are looking for someone with the ability to lead a cross industry technical team delivering a key national programme. You will be involved in some of the most exciting projects in defence where you will use your strong analytical skills. We are looking for someone with a proven track record of effectively communicating complex engineering issues to senior stakeholders who understands submarine operations, including signature management.
In order to be successful in this role, you will need to prove the following essential criteria in your application:
- BEng/BSc in applicable Science or Engineering Subject
- Proven experience managing multifaceted submarine design challenges
- Proven experience managing submarine signatures
- Chartered Engineer/Scientist or equivalent experience
