About the role
Desian Education are proud to be working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive single-form entry primary school in Winsford. Easily accessible via public transport, the school is looking to appoint a qualified and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team on a long-term temporary basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant to make a genuine difference to a pupil’s educational and personal development. Following the successful approval of additional funding, the school are also open to considering a temporary-to-permanent position for the right candidate.
Your New Role:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will join the school’s Reception class, providing dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis.
Working closely with the class teacher and wider school team, you will:
- Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day
- Support the pupil to access and engage with the Early Years curriculum
- Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil
- Promote independence, confidence and positive engagement in learning
- Use positive behaviour strategies to support emotional regulation and reduce disengagement
- Adapt activities and approaches around the pupil’s individual needs and interests
- Use pupil-led strategies to encourage participation and learning
- Communicate effectively with teaching staff and the pupil’s parents/guardians regarding progress and development
- Lead on 1:1 phonics interventions using the RWI scheme
The pupil is able to access the curriculum but can experience periods of disengagement and present with challenging behaviours due to their PDA profile. The successful candidate will therefore need to be patient, adaptable and confident in using creative, child-centred approaches to encourage engagement.
This is a particularly rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about SEN support and helping children overcome barriers to learning.
What You Need to Succeed:
- Full Right to Work in the UK
- An Enhanced Children’s DBS certificate, or willingness to obtain one
- NVQ Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent
- A minimum of 40 days’ referenceable classroom experience
- Experience supporting children with SEN
- A good understanding of the Early Years curriculum
- A patient, proactive and nurturing approach
- The ability to build strong relationships with pupils and work effectively as part of a team
What You’ll Get in Return:
- Competitive rates of pay
- A long-term temporary contract
- Potential temporary-to-permanent opportunity
- Full holiday entitlement
- Company pension scheme
- Free access to relevant training and CPD
- Dedicated support from an experienced Desian Education consultant
- Access to exclusive vacancies
- Desian Education’s Refer a Friend scheme
