Meter Reader - Torquay & Exeter

Morson Edge are working with a leading provider of metering services within the UK energy retail sector to recruit a Meter Reader to cover the Torquay and Exeter areas.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, is self-motivated and wants the flexibility to manage their own schedule.

As a Meter Reader, you will be responsible for collecting accurate meter readings from both commercial and residential properties, using a handheld device. You will represent some of the UK’s leading energy suppliers while delivering a professional and friendly service to customers.

The Opportunity

Initially, you will complete training before moving into the field. Each day, you will plan your own route and visit properties across your allocated area.

Meters can be located inside or outside properties, so you’ll need to plan your day effectively to maximise access. You’ll spend your time walking or driving between properties, depending on the area you cover.

Once on site, you’ll accurately record meter readings using a handheld device while providing excellent customer service.

This is an independent role that requires someone who is comfortable working alone, can manage their time effectively and is willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Visit residential and commercial properties to collect accurate meter readings.
• Record meter readings accurately using a handheld device.
• Plan and manage your daily route efficiently.
• Walk or drive between properties depending on the area covered.
• Provide a professional and friendly service to customers.
• Represent leading UK energy suppliers professionally.
• Work independently to achieve daily targets and timescales.
• Maintain high standards of health and safety for yourself and customers.
• Work efficiently in all weather conditions.

What You’ll Need

• Full UK driving licence.
• Previous customer service experience is desirable but not essential.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Ability to work quickly and efficiently.
• Ability to work to timescales and under pressure.
• Flexible approach to tasks and working hours.
• Friendly personality with a professional approach.
• Ability to walk several miles each day.
• Must be able to pass required screening and vetting standards.
• Must be able to provide 5 years’ employment history.
• Must be able to pass a DBS check.

Working Pattern

• Flexible working hours.
• Must be prepared to work plenty of hours between 5pm and 8pm.
• Every other Saturday must be worked.
• Home-based with travel throughout the allocated Torquay and Exeter areas.
