About the role
The Opportunity
We are seeking an inspirational and experienced academic leader to join our team as Senior Lecturer/Programme Director for Public and Global Health in Keele University's School of Medicine. This is an exciting opportunity to provide strategic and operational leadership for our Public Health programmes, ensuring an outstanding student experience, academic excellence, and strong graduate outcomes.
The Role
As Programme Director, you will lead the development, delivery, quality assurance, and continuous enhancement of undergraduate and/or postgraduate Public Health programmes. You will work collaboratively with academic colleagues, professional services teams, employers, community stakeholders, and external partners to ensure programmes remain innovative, evidence-based, and responsive to the evolving public health landscape.
The post holder will hold a doctoral qualification (PhD or equivalent) in Public Health or a closely related discipline and will provide strategic and operational leadership for our Public Health programmes, ensuring an outstanding student experience, academic excellence, and strong graduate outcomes.
The successful candidate will (not exhaustive, please refer to the Job Description & Person Specification):
- Provide strategic leadership and management of Public Health programmes.
- Ensure curriculum design and delivery meet institutional, professional, and sector standards.
- Lead programme review, validation, quality assurance, and enhancement activities.
- Monitor programme performance, student progression, retention, attainment, and graduate outcomes.
- Support and mentor academic staff, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Develop innovative teaching, learning, and assessment approaches that enhance student engagement.
- Maintain strong partnerships with public health organisations, local authorities, NHS providers, voluntary sector organisations, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure the integration of contemporary public health policy, research, and practice into the curriculum.
- Contribute to student recruitment, marketing, and outreach activities.
- Participate in research, scholarship, and knowledge exchange activities aligned with the institution's strategic objectives.
- Represent the programme internally and externally, promoting its reputation and impact.
You will have experience/qualifications in:
- PhD (or equivalent doctoral qualification) in Public Health or a closely related discipline.
- Significant experience in higher education teaching and programme leadership.
- Strong understanding of contemporary public health policy, practice, and priorities.
- Experience of curriculum development, quality assurance, and academic governance.
- Demonstrable leadership and people management skills. Excellent communication, organisational, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, and student-centred learning.
- Evidence of a sustained record of scholarship, research, publication, or knowledge exchange activity.
- Ability to contribute strategically to the growth, development, and reputation of Public Health education.
