As the authority for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine capability, the Submarine Directorate oversees one of the most complex and critical elements of UK defence. Covering everything from in‑service management to long‑term fleet modernisation, the directorate ensures the Submarine Flotilla remains safe, reliable, and ready to meet national security requirements.

You'll be based at HMNB Devonport, the largest naval base in Western Europe and a powerhouse of Royal Navy capability. It is home to amphibious ships, survey squadrons, submarines, and two-thirds of the frigate force. With its unique nuclear refitting facility, Devonport ensures the Fleet remains ready to support operations worldwide.

Job description

Are you looking for an opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of critical Defence infrastructure? We are seeking a Dependency & Interface Manager to support the Devonport Major Infrastructure Portfolio, a complex and high-profile programme delivering critical infrastructure for Defence. In this role, you will help develop, maintain and assure integrated plans, schedules and interface arrangements across a wide range of delivery activity. Working closely with project, programme and portfolio teams, as well as senior stakeholders, HMNB Devonport, Babcock, suppliers and governance forums, you will help identify key milestones, dependencies, assumptions, sequencing and responsibilities. You will play an important part in supporting effective stakeholder engagement, improving clarity across interfaces, providing planning analysis and reporting, and helping senior leaders make informed decisions by identifying risks, issues, interdependencies and stakeholder impacts across the portfolio.

What you will be doing:

• Develop, maintain and assure integrated portfolio and project plans, schedules, milestones, interfaces and critical path information, ensuring planning assumptions, sequencing, dependencies and key stakeholder touchpoints are captured and kept up to date.
• Coordinate planning inputs from project, programme and functional teams across the Devonport Major Infrastructure Portfolio, engaging stakeholders to clarify responsibilities, interfaces and decision points, and supporting the development and maintenance of proportionate RACI arrangements where required.
• Monitor delivery performance against agreed baselines, analyse schedule variance, slippage, risks, issues, interfaces and interdependencies, assess stakeholder impacts, and escalate material concerns through appropriate governance routes.
• Produce clear management information, dashboards, progress updates and governance reporting to support boards, senior leaders and wider stakeholders with accurate, timely and meaningful planning and interface insight.
• Support change control, assurance activity and continuous improvement in planning and interface management practice, including maintaining planning standards, data quality, stakeholder engagement and lessons identified across portfolio stakeholders.

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

• Developing, maintaining or assuring project, programme or portfolio plans and schedules within a complex delivery environment.
• Identifying and managing milestones, dependencies, interfaces, assumptions and constraints to support effective delivery planning.
• Working with a broad stakeholder network, including senior leaders, project teams, functional specialists, suppliers or site stakeholders, to coordinate delivery activity and maintain effective working relationships.
• Supporting or applying RACI principles, role clarity, decision points or interface management arrangements to improve collaboration and delivery confidence.
• Monitoring progress against agreed baselines, analysing schedule performance and supporting the management of risks, issues, change and stakeholder impacts.
• Producing planning outputs, management information or governance reporting for senior stakeholders, boards or decision makers, and of supporting continuous improvement in planning processes, data quality, reporting or ways of working.

• Working in infrastructure, nuclear, maritime, defence or other complex major project environments.
• Experience of stakeholder mapping, interface coordination or supporting formal governance and reporting arrangements in a portfolio or programme environment.
• Experience of using planning and reporting tools to maintain schedules, track progress and present performance information.
• Experience of supporting integrated delivery across mixed civilian, military, operational and contractor teams.
• A recognised project delivery, planning or scheduling qualification, or demonstrable equivalent practical experience.
